The raised bed (with the three green steps) is a traditional feature of ancient Libyan beds. The structure is built of wood, and helps keep the bed away from the heat emanating from the ground. However, in old times (until recently) the level of the bed is at least one meter and a half above the ground, with a small door to the right of the three steps, leading to a food storage area beneath the bed structure: it is dark and cool and thus ideal for keeping food for long periods of time. Nowadays, probably for safety reasons, the beds are much lower.

A 4-star hotel from the Othman period, originally used as a rendezvous for convey merchants coming from Africa and Europe. Fantastically located near Tripoli harbour and opposite the Marcus Aurelius Arch, close to the Old City. The hotel is well liked by most tourists and employs traditional furniture and decoration to match the unique architecture of the building. Although the hotel campaigns to be classified as a 5-star hotel, it is still considered a 4-star accommodation. It is famous for its restaurant, which serves excellent Tripolitanian food, especially sea food dishes.
